Words that Set the Mood
When we write scary stories it is important to use a thesaurus, or other vocabulary reference books to enhance descriptions of events, places, as well as characters. Scary stories all depend on what kind of mood sets the atmosphere. For example, if the story established an eerie atmosphere, it would give a very suspenseful feeling. It would be even creepier if they put the mood in the beginning.
Words that Evoke the Five Senses
Five senses are important in scary stories. The five senses create more mysterious effects, and suspense of what will be occurring further on. For example, when a character from the story suddenly hears strange clanking sounds or a low guttural voice, it catches the readers? attention from imagining what will happen next.
