SO WHAT DID RUSH DO TO THE PATIENTS?
Benjamin Rush would give mercury, calomel, and jalap to make the patient throw up and have diarrhea. He followed common practices including draining blood. Rush's treatments killed his patients, rather than saving.
On the other hand, French physicians like Dr. Jean Deveze did not follow Benjamin Rush's treaments.
They recommended rest, fresh air, and lots of fluids. It still is the best way to treat disease today.
The Yellow Fever victims thought that vinegar would lead to a treatment or a cure.
Victims would soak sponges in vinegar and then would stuck them up their noses.
They would also wash their clothes and hair in vinegar. Some would even simply just drink it.
