Election of Lincoln
The year 1860 marks a very pivotal time for the United States,
namely the election of President Abraham Lincoln.
This marked election is often thought of the first event in a series
that turned into the civil war that started April of 1861
The first president from The Republican Party,
Lincoln was responsible for many large changes and is an
an icon in American History
The South thought that Lincoln would free all of the slaves, and that is what the
southern economy relied on. The election of Lincoln in 1864 also saw
the election of new, mainly abolitionist members of Congress,
and many Southern states had already moved
toward secession from the Union.
