Who is John Brown ?
Was a super religous abilitionist who believed in violently overthrowing the slave system. He was born in the 1800's in Torrington, Connecticut.
On October 16, 1859 he led an army of 18 men, including 5 of his sons into Harper's Ferry, VA.
Harpers Ferry Continued....
Their goal was to infiltrate the army's weapons and give them to slaves, to start a slave rebellion. Once the slaves recieved the weapons the goal was to have the slaves kill their masters & escape.

Result of John Brown's Raid
They were able to grab a couple of slaves but word spread of their rebellion and by morning they were surrounded Ten of his men were killed, including 2 of his sons. He was tried & found guilty & sentenced to death. He was killed & hung on Dec 2nd, 1859.
John Brown's Raid led to the cause of the Civil War, because the Southerners felt like the Northerners were out to kill them, since John Brown tried to have the slaves to kill their masters.
