To take or be addicted to drugs.
-Oxford English Dictionary
The use of a substance (as an anabolic steroid or erythropoietin) or
technique (as blood doping) to illegally improve athletic performance.
is a widespread problem
If we take a look at the winners of the Tour De France over the past 30 years
The problem of
becomes very clear
Tour De France Winners: 1984-2013
Over the past 30 years, the Tour De France had 16 different winners and out of them only 6 were clean.
Cycing races are decided nowadays by the amount of performance enhancing drugs you take rather than athletic ability.
The problem of doping is expanding...
Amatuer cyclists are now using performance enhancing drugs to win
These cyclists will soon make it into the professional races, further continuing the cycle of doping
Track & Field
does not only affect cycling
It is an epidemic that plagues almost every sport...
is not right
Winners should be decided based on the amount of hours they practice and not on the number of performance enhancing drugs they use
needs to be stopped
The international anti-doping agencies for all sports need to come together
To draft stricter punishments for doping
To invent better drug tests
And to come up with a plan to stop doping for good
If changes do not happen soon
Doping will continue to spread
Continue to taint our sports
And athletes will continues to cheat their way to the top of the podium
