In this Unit we will cover: The History of Starbucks
Zev Siegel, Jerry Baldwin, and Gordon Bowker
Jerry Baldwin, Gordon Bowker, and Zev Siegel founded Starbucks on March 30, 1971, in Pike Place Market, Seattle.
Howard Schultz discovered Starbucks in 1981 and was immediately drawn to the idea of Starbucks. He joined the company two years later, in 1983.
Inspiration for Starbucks
Schultz traveled to Italy and was inspired by the Italian coffeehouses and was determined to bring the idea back to Starbucks. The founders vetoed the idea, so Schultz made his own coffeehouse, Il Giornale, and sold it to buy Starbucks in 1987.
