Imperialism is when a stronger country dominates a weaker one and ends up controling it.
The western advantages that helped their ability to takeover other areas of the world was that it was mostly native people there.
The Berlin Conference was a meeting where many nations met in 1884 to split up Africa in a civil manner. The African Nations weren't invited to attend or participate in this meeting.
The Suez Canal was an important route because it then allowed a short route from Europe to the East Asian Colonies. this avoided the Europeans to have to go all the way around the Cape of Good Hope and saved time and money.
The Sepoys were soldiers that the British East India Company employed into their private army. In 1857 the Sepoy Rebelled because the Cartridges were greased with beef and pork fat.
Balance of Trade is when you have to trade an item for another item that is worth the same.
Trade Surplus is when a country sends more products than it recieves.
Trade Deficit is when a country recieves more valuable stuff than what it gives and then it starts giving less and less.
The Opium War began when the Chinese denied to trade with the british. The British then sent opium to them and the Chinese were now highly addicted to it. Chinese Officials tried to ban the opium, but it didn't work. Then the British declared war.
The Taiping Rebellion was a big civil war in China against the Manchu-led Qing Dynasty. The causes of this rebellion were because of rivalries and wanting power, natural disasters, and chronic food shortages.
The Boxer Uprising was a rebellion that took place in China. European nations were still taking over China and the citizens didn't like them. The Society of Harmonious Fists were a group that then changed their name to The Boxers and they began with series of attacks on Chinese Christians but they were stopped by the Japenese Army. After the Japanese Armies defeated the Boxers, they forced China to give them more privileges.
