The Battle of Okinawa ends
During WWII, the U.S. 10th Army overcomes the rest of the japanese resistance on Okinawa Island, ending one of the bloodiest battles of WWII.
One of the reason the U.S. won th battle of Okinawa was because, they had far better weaponry. Most Japanese Kamakazes were shot down before they could do any damage.
Another reason the Americans won was because had the numbers advantage. They had 180,000 troops while the Japanese had only 130,000.
Japan lost 77,166 soldiers, who were either killed or committed suicide, and their Allies suffered 14,009 deaths. While 149,193 local civilians were killed or committed suicide, more than one third of the total local population.
