Recently Japan has experienced low birth rates, therefore contributing to a population decrease! In fact this is only the start of what the National Institute of Population believe to be a huge drop in their population.
WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD?
It is predicted that in the following decades, Japan's population will decrease by about one million people every year!
If this all goes according to the data then the population of Japan will be 86 million by 2060 (A drop from 128,057,352 during the Oct 2010 census)
IT ISN'T JUST THE DECLINE
By 2060, the population is expected to be...
40% OVER 65s
It is currently around 20% so this figure is meant to double over the next half century
What can Japan do now?
One factor of the decline in birth rates
One factor is that about a third of young Japanese men and more women have no interest in sex
Without these relationships, goverment handouts to encourage people to have children will be pointless
Even with the advantage of having free medical care and a free cost in delivery babies people are still reluctant to having them
Statistics show that males and females of Japan work far more hours than France, Sweden and USA. Could taking time off to spend with a partner be the answer?
Employees working over 49 hours per week (2012)
Continue advertising relationships! That is one of the main factors that is contributing to the birth rate decline, so in order for people to have babies there needs to be a relationship worked out. Therefore the Japanese goverment need to continue advertising and expand their message.
On average Japanese couples get married at around 30! Yes some countries are higher but having a later marriage may put of the thought of starting a family or trying for children. Therefore young marriages (25-30) should be praised.
Population decline as a whole
In terms of the whole population decrease, here are some ideas
- Promoting your area. Showing off cities such as Tokyo and Osaka but also advertising the countryside and the outdoors to help attract tourism
- Sustaining a decent economy. Keep the economy strong to enable people to keep a decent way of living, attracting people to the better lifestyle.
- More child support areas. Encourage people to visit centres and areas where they can get support and information about having a child, how to raise a child etc. so people don't feel left in the dark
