What does it mean to be faithful?
Let's begin the lesson!
DEVOTING YOURSELF TO YOUR SPOUSE!
In regards to marriage, to be faithful is to devote yourself to none other than your spouse! (With the exception of God, of course!) Being faithful also means using the proper and truthful body language. To have truthful body language means to have respect of the temple God has given you. Sex before marriage, for example, is not truthful language of the body. "Chastity" is a term we use to indicate the use of sex only to be fruitful. To produce offspring through love and respect to God and your spouse!
FAITHFULNESS TO THE WEDDING VOWS!
There are four aspects to marriage vows: Free, Total, Faithful & Fruitful! If you are to be faithful to the four aspects of the vows, then you will be able to maintain a healthy marriage. Though if not, the bond of marriage can be weakened! When you say your wedding vows, you are making a promise not only to your spouse but to God that you are devoting and sacrificing yourself to your partner through God's consent. To not be faithful toward the vows is to break the trust your partner had in you, to bring yourself upon sin and disregard God's desire for you and your spouse to live in a free, total, faithful and fruitful marriage.
HOW DO I REMAIN FAITHFUL?
THINGS TO REMEMBER!
How would infedality & not being faithful affect my marriage?
The Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1646: 'By its very nature conjugal love requires the inviolable fidelity of the spouses. This is the consequence of the gift of themselves which they make to each other. Love seeks to be definitive; it cannot be an arrangement "until further notice." The "intimate union of marriage, as a mutual giving of two persons, and the good of the children, demand total fidelity from the spouses and require an unbreakable union between them."' To be unfaithful is to break the promises made in the beginning of your marriage. It is to sin and break the commitment to not only your spouse to to God as well. It is to turn against the Catholic morality. The entire purpose of marriage is to commit to an individual whom you love through God's blessing, and if someone else is brought into the image, or if any of the aspects of the vows are to be disrespected, the love within the marriage will collapse and weaken as long as it continues to happen.
Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body. But as the church is subject to Christ, so also the wives ought to be to their husbands in everything.
