Generative Learning Part Two
Students create their own ideas with rhythms and melodic patterns
Students then teach their ideas to peers
tables of rhythm notation
summaries of listening clips
How did it go?
Students were better able to try out new rhythms or singing patterns. If they made mistakes, I had opportunities to give feedback Students were able to organize newly presented rhythms with the foundational rhythms they already know
Why did I do it?
I have been looking for ways to help kids make their own connections to what we are doing in music and interact with their voices and performances, instead of just repeating what I tell them. GL is an approach that encourages meaning making which is exactly what I'm looking for.
