New Imperialism was a colonial expansion, countries wanted to gain more power so they began taking over weaker nations.
There mortivations were that they would gain more power, and wealth also more respect from other countries.
The westerns had many advantages because they were more advance they had better technology, transportion, and powerul armies and navies.
This provided them with many advantages to easily taking over other areas.
The Berlin Conference
It was a meeting of European colonial powers, there the top three most power countries met which were Britain, Germany, and France. They met to discuss how to peacefully devide Africa among them for colinization.
The Suez Canal
The Suez Canal was a waterway located in Egypt. It was use as a trade route, it connected the Mediterrenea and the Red seas. The Suez Canal was a very important waterway beacuse it made trasportation a lot more faster.
The Sepoys were Indian British troops, who then rebel on britain beacause they use cow fat to reload there riffles which went against the religous beliefs of Hindus and Muslims.
The Sopey Rebellion of 1857
After the rebel happen Indians then kicked out Britain out of power.
Balance of Trade
The difference in which how much a country takes in rather than selling.
A positive balance in which a country sells more rather than buying from other countries.
A negative balace of trade in which a country buys more from another country.
The first Opium war was from 1839 to 1842. It was a massive battle between Britain and China, British warships sailed into China and savagely defeated China. This weakend Chinas coastal defences eventually this leads to other countries taking advantages of it's weakeness.
The Taiping Rebellion 1851-65
The Taiping Rebellion was a tremendous civil war in Southern China, citizins rebel against Qing Dynasty. They then took control over big parts of china, but then later they were defeated with the help of the government. Russia then took over land in the North.
The Boxer Rebellion
The boxer Rebellion were chinese citizin who participated in an antiforein movement, they where against imperialism and Christianity. They fought in plan of deafeating the "foreign devils."
They were then defeated by the Empress Dowager who ordered all of the foreigners to be assassinated.
