What is REM Sleep?
REM sleep is an acronym for Random-Eye-Movement (sleep.) REM is a unique phase of sleep that can happen around four to five times a night.
You generally experience REM sleep anywhere from 90 minutes to 120 minutes during one period of night. The average person starts with short bursts of REM, which gradually increases until the night is over.
REM Sleep happens more often when you are an infant. The brains activity is similar to that of waking hours, so many people tend to wake up when they are in a state of REM, or they at least experience light sleep.
