good morning class!
In this Unit we will cover:
normall rainfall that is made acidic due to Industrial or vehicle discharge of nitrogen and sulphur oxide
How does rain become acidic?
industerial or vehical waste enter lakes and nearby waters -> the water percipitates and the rain produced becomes acidic
natural rain is slightly acidic as well due to dissolved CO2:
H2O(l) + CO2(g) => H2CO3(aq)
Now if we add industrial sulphur dioxide:
SO2(g) + ½O2(g) ==> SO3(g) H2O(l) + SO3(g) ==> H2SO4(aq)
What harms come with these rains?
threat to marine life
affect the ability of soil to grow plants
affect on human health Respiratory disease: asthma or chronic bronchitis
