Photosynthesis and Humans

One of the most obvious impacts by humans is water pollution. We have been polluting oceans, lakes and rivers for years. We need water to survive, that is why we need it. But we use the ocean and lakes like they are our own personal trashcan. Of all the water on earth, only 2.5% of it is freshwater. Of that 2.5% only less than 1% is available for us. 70% of all freshwater usage goes to irrigation. Humans require 13 gallons of freshwater a day for drinking, cooking and cleaning. This does NOT take into account the countless gallons of water needed to grow food or care for animals.
Land Pollution, the degration of the earth's surface's and soil, is caued by human activity and misuse of natural reasorce's. Some causes of land pollution and degration are Urban Sprawl, When natural habitat's are removed to make room for communities. Poor Agriculture Practices which is Animal manure runoff from CAFO (Confined Animal Feeding Operations), the use of chemical fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides, the pracitce of growing monocultures, and the deforestation required to expand farmland all contribute to degration and pollution. Personal Consumption our modern culture's desire to have more bigger and better things. As well as our relationship to and habit of waste.
Some good news is human impact on the enviorment is that air pollution is lowering and air quality is increasing. According to the U.S. EPA, since 1990 to 2008. Ozone decreased 14%, Lead decreased 78%, Nitrogen dioxide decreased 35%, Carbon monoxide decreased 68% and Sulfur dioxide decreased 59%. However, 127 milllion people still live in areas that exeed quality standerds. Some of the areas are far from meeting the standerds like Ozone. So the question is: what amount of air pollution is really okay? The greatest human impact on the environment we can have is to vote with our pocket books and our actions. With all the cars and fossil fuels in the world, air pollution is hevely impacted. One way to stop air pollution is to stop burning fossil fuels and to get electric cars so that way we won't have waste carbon dioxide and rot this planet. We could also try and limit the number of nuclear power plants and stop all the gas on earth (Carbon dioxide).
Although we, the people have been harmful to the environment, we have done things to save it. We have built nuclear power plants to give energy instead of pollution to the environment. The EPA are helping animals and plant life all the time. They help any animal they find that could be lost, injured, or forgotten by it's parents. It also helps plant life when the pollution is too heavy for a plant to live in.
We can help the Environment!
It is scientificly proven that plants can help someone concentrate. They can be kept in a work place or at your home. Many gardens facilities that grow plants are hosts to education for children. They bring children to the gardens on field trips causing the students to appreciate nature. Having plants around the household have been proven to improve peoples moods. They can also relive stress from people. Finally, when plants have been shown in hospital rooms, people have been shown to recove from ingury faster due to it's ornamental horiculture.
All plant hormones help the plant to adapt to it's surroudings, and to help the plant grow. I will list three important hormones of a plant. Absicic Acid is a hormone that promotes seed dormancy by inhabiting cell growth. They also open and close the stoma when a leaf wilts. Gibberlions promote stem elongation. But they are not produced in the stem tip. Finnaly, Cytokinins will promote cell division. They are produced in growing areas, such as meristems at tip of the shoot. Plant tropisms are ways that plants adapt to their surroundings. I will list three tropisms that plants use. Phototropsim is when a plant bends towards a light source to get enough sunlight. Thigmotropsim is when a plant grows or moves in responce to touch or contact stimuli. Finally, Gravitropsim is when a plant turns or growth due to it's gravity.
This was a PSA or Public Service Anouncment to protect all wildlife and plants. Thank You!
