Service: Worldviews Project Party Volunteer [Photographer, merchandise manager] This was an excellent experience that involved responsibility and creativity. I had done work for the Worldviews Project before, but this was the first time I volunteered at an event where I acted as an ambassador for the organization.
Creativity: Violin [Lessons, individual initiative] I first picked up the violin in August of 2014. Since then, I have been practicing and picking up new skills and techniques, as well as improving my playing ability. I was very excited to take on this creative challenge because I am very interested in music. The experience has been both challenging and exciting. I look forward to conitnuing this endeavor.
Action: Sport Tryouts [Volleyball, Basketball, Rugby, Soccer] Since it was my first year in high school, I was determined to be on a sports team. I was shocked to learn that the volleyball tryouts were scheduled for the first week of school. I was still struggling to get my bearings with IB, let alone taking on a new sport! I decided to give it a chance anyways. It didn't work out, but the next sport of interest that was coming up was girls basketball. I was really excited to play, since I had been on my Jr. High team. Fate was not on my side, as I got a terrible cold the week of tryouts. That same week, my mom was going in for a back surgery, and my stress levels were through the roof. Needless to say, I didn't make the basketball team. Hopefully I can take what I learned from this year and make the team in grade 11. In April, Mr. Debenham convinced me to tryout for the girls rugby team. I reluctantly agreed to try it out, seeing as I didn't have much of an excuse not to. A feeling of inevitable defeat from my experiences with volleyball and basketball was always at the back of my mind, however I remained optimistic with rugby. After the first tryout, I already knew it probably wasn't the sport for me, but I kept coming until they announced the team list. I feel bad saying this, but I was relieved when my name was nowhere to be seen! Despite my disappointment with school sports this year, I still play club soccer, and was happy to find out that I made a Tier 3 team (last season I was Tier 4/5).
Service: CIBC Run for the Cure [Supporter, roadside cleanup crew] Volunteering for this event was a great experience. It was amazing to see the fantastic turnout of the charity run/walk that supports cancer research and funding. I was definitely inspired by the enthusiasm that the runners had. The environmental aspect of this volunteer position was also interesting. Many of the runners did their part and took their litter directly to the garbage bags.

Service: October Speech Tournament [Announcer, timer] I have never been very good at public speaking, but it was amazing to watch people who are genuinely talented at it. I enjoyed taking a leadership role.
