War of Currents
Tesla vs. Edison
Mostly known for "inventing" an improved longer lasting light bulb. However, he also developed what generated the "War of Currents": DC (direct current)
DC needs lots of expensive wiring and power plants to be generated and provided.
DC power is still common, however, when distances are small and less wires/generators are required, is used in all modern day electronics, like our computers, TVs, cellphone chargers, etc.
Tesla is not quite as widely known as Thomas Edison, but definitely deserves more recognition for our world of electricity.
All of our homes are powered mostly by AC for this very reason.
This allows electric current to periodically reverse its direction, reducing the amount of wires and plants needed to provide electricity.
He designed and invented what we still know today as AC. (alternating current)
Both designs were protected under patents which "generated" what we know today as the "War of Currents".
