ENERGY SAVING TIPS FROM
Be an "Energy Star!"
When replacing appliances, look for those with ENERGY STAR labels. These appliances conserve energy and release less unwanted heat.
Set It and Forget It
Heating & Cooling
Set your thermostat to 78 in the summer and 68 in the winter. Each degree setting lower in summer or higher in winter can result in 5-8% more in energy costs.
Fill-In the Gaps
Caulk or foam seal all air leaks (plumbing, electrical, heating and air, etc.) Weather-strip and caulk around windows and doors. Consider storm doors for outside doors.
Slay Energy Vampires
Some electronics can still use power even when they are turned "off." Consider the use of a power strip to cut all power to the devices, or unplug the appliance when not in actual use.
The Bulbs Matter
Replace any light bulb, especially ones that burn for more than 1 hour a day, with LEDs or CFLs. Also, consider energy-saving LED lights for your Christmas decorations!
TLC for Your HVAC
Be sure to have your HVAC unit serviced at least once a year and make sure that all ducts are adequately sealed. Also, be sure to change the filters every 1-3 months, depending on the filter type.
