Themes in Romeo and Juliet and The Fault In our Stars
Love overcoming hardship:
Both of these stories have the theme of love over- coming hardship. For Romeo and Juliet this means getting married in secret. For Hazel and Augustus this means continuing to pursue their relationship knowing it wont end happily (one of them dying).
Concept of stars:
Both of these stories also mention the stars and beliefs about the stars quite often. This leads me to believe that the stars are a rep- resentation of their love.
Both of these stories contain young love in the plot. This contrib- utes to the theme in that it makes these two couples more relatable to one another.
1. Death seperates both relationships 2. Both meet at a social event 3. Both have an idea the relationship may not go well but pursue it anyway 4. Societal norms affect both relation- ships 5. Both stories have young couples
