To what extent should national interest pursued?
,there is a population of nearly 7 hundread thousand
with over 630 reconized government that spread across canada,
Why do they get so many self govenments?
Self Government and National Interest
The First Nations had a self
continued to allow them to use it
govenment before settlement
begain, the Canadian
Concerns with self government
1. Rights based on race that no other Canadian will have 2. 50-60 homelands with each different laws 3. A justice system based on race 4. Non-Aboriginal people living on the First Nations settlement will be paying taxes and wont be able to participate in the public decisions that effect them
Supporters: First Nations Opposers: Other Canadian citizens Helped vs. hurt: only the First Nations will be helped. Who is over looked: Other citizens living on the First Nations settlement
Self govenment hasnt really changed the First Nations way of life because the self government has been there before settement came. Although allowing to have their own self govenment allows them to keep their freedom within canada also to conutiue with their traditons. self government allows them to make their own laws.
I think that the self government will stay together, and ultimately expand, getting more self government systems. I think this because it seems to be working for the First Nations currently. This being said I think that if they keep expanding then other Canadian citizen might get upset that they get to keep making their own laws.
