and the Sixth Mass Extinction
The Sixth Extinction
Also know as Holocene Extinction, is used to describe the extinction of many species since 10,000 BC due primarliy to human actions.
Rate of Extinction
Though only under a thousand species have been reported to become extinct its estimated that over 140,000 species have been lost. This has greatly effected the ecosytem
Speed of Extinction
Species are becoming extinct 100 to 1000 times more often before humans cultivated the world. Profesor E. Wilson of Harvard estimates by 2100, 1/2 of all species will be extinct if we follow this path.
How's this effect us?
If we lose many more of these animals most ecosystems will be permanlty destroyed. We must find ways to limit our population and not infringe on our border with nature because before long we will grow too big for our tiny earth.
