WHAT IS MEDICARE?
Medicare is a health insurance program for people who are 65 or older, certain younger people with disabilities, and people with End- Stage Renal Disease.
WHO PUT MEDICARE INTO LAW?
President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the medicare bill into law on, July 30, 1965. At the Harry S. Truman Library.
WHY DID LYNDON SIGN THE BILL?
Over 65% of the world's population didn't have any medic- cal insurance
A third of the elder lived in poverty in the U.S.
WHAT IMPACT DOES MEDICARE HAVE ON THE ELDERS?
Medicare allows the elders to have care that they could afford.
Medicare also helps the elders cover their expenses including, lab tests, surgeries, doctor vists, and also home health care.
Since Medicare's introduction in 1965 it was, and remains up to date, it is the one main change in health insurance coverage in the U.S .
