The earthquake led to series of small eruptions , and on May 20, 1980, a magnitude 5.1 earthquake was the cause on the volcano's eruption and create a huge blast.
The eruption killed everything within a 200 square mile area.
It was said the the noise from the blast could be heard as far as California and Montana...However those around the area reported hearing nothing from the blast.
