Why Is Hydropower good for us
By Erica Lowry
mechanical energy derived by directing, harnessing, and channeling water to create energy. in either instance, the water flows through a pipe, or a penstock, then pushes against and turns blades in a turbine to spin a generator to make electricity.
By itself, electricity is an exceptionally clean form of energy but, we have to consider how it is generated. Today, about 70% of U.S. electricity is produced from fossil fuels, Nuclear power accounts for another 20%, leaving about 10% coming from renewable resources like wind, water and solar.
Compare to Fossil Fuels
Hydroelectric energy is renewable. However, theres only a limited number of suitable reservoirs where hydroelectric power plants can be built and even less places where such projects are a better profit.
Pros and Cons
Hydropower is the most important and renewable source of energy, represents 19% of the electricity production. China is the largest hydroelectricity production followed by Canada, Brazil, and the United States.
