There are many things that live on Earth. In order to live on Earth, living things have to change over time to adjust to Earth's changes.
This process is called "evolution" and allows living things to slowly change over time. This change happens inside their body and sometimes show as physical traits. Living things inherit traits from their parents based on "alleles". These "alleles" code for "genes" which decide things like your hair or eye color.
For example, the reason you look like your parents is because they have passed on their "genes" to you. You have traits from each of your parents but you still vary from them because each living thing has a different set of "genes". You probably look more like your parents than you do to your cousins or other relatives because you share more "genes" in common with them.
Depending on where living things live, they may change over time in order to survive better. A famous scientist studied a group of birds that looked very similar to each other but who evolved different looking beaks over time in order to eat the food that was available to them more easily.
Afterall, if all you had was a spoon to eat spaghetti it would be really hard right?
