Determine chemical make-up of stars, meteors, planets, and more. Calculate orbits, and determine sizes, shapes, brightness, and motions of different celestial bodies Measure radio, infrared, gamma, and x-ray emissions from extraterrestrial sources.
The image to the right is an example of some of the data you will be researching, the chemical makeup of stars.

A new telescope is being made that can take images up to 1,000 times sharper than the hubble telescope. This makes it easier for astronomers to determine the chemical make up of stars because you can see the light emitted off of them more clearly. Light waves from stars and other objects in space would bend around a disk floating in space and come together at a single, central point behind it. That light would then be sent through the telescope, resulting in a high-resolution image.
