In relationship to a vehicle
What is momentum?
Momentum is the quantity of motion of a moving body
If a vehicle weighed 1300 kg and it was traveling with a speed of 30 m/s, it’s momentum would equal 39,000 kgm/s
In addition to momentum
Impulse is the change in momentum
During a car crash the momentum changes, which generally produces a large force in a short amount of time.
The car crash was an inelastic collision because some of its kinetic energy was converted into other forms of energy.
If the car crash was elastic, you would be able to observe the conservation of momentum and conservation of kinetic energy.
The conservation of momentum
Is the principle that the total momentum in a closed system remains constant.
