*Economic - motives included the desire to make money, to expand and control foreign trade, to create new markets for products, to acquire raw materials and cheap labor, to compete for investments and resources, and to export industrial technology and transportation methods. *Political- motives were based on a nation's desire to gain power, to compete with other European countries, to expand territory, to exercise military force, to gain prestige by winning colonies, and to boost national pride and security. *Religious- motives included the desire to spread Christianity, to protect European missionaries in other lands, to spread European values and moral beliefs, to educate peoples of other cultures, and to end slave trade in Africa. Exploratory- motives were based on the desire to explore unknown or uncharted territory, to conduct scientific research, to conduct medical searches for the causes and treatment of diseases, to go on an adventure, and to investigate unknown lands and cultures.
Advantages & Disadvantages : An advantage of imperialism is that the war can cause a country to have a better economy. Based on the desire to gain power, to exercise military force,well organized governmentss, to gain prestige by winning colonies, supieror technonogy, and the boost to national pride and security.A disadvantage of imperialism is that wars cause death to many people and stress on people. Another disadvantage is that the countries that are being taken over could revolt.
The Berlin Conference:
The Berlin Conference was Africa's undoing in more ways than one. The colonial powers superimposed their domains on the African continent.The Berlin Conference of 1884-1885 was organized to agree that the Congo River. Niger River mouths and basins would be considered neutral and open to trade. However, the result of the Berlin Conference saw the European colonial powers scrambled to gain control over the interior of the African continent. By 1914, the conference participants had fully divided Africa among themselves into fifty countries. Eupoean powers had met at an international confrence in the year 1884. The meeting took place in Berlin, Germany not in Africa. NO AFRICANS WHERE INVITED TO THE CONFERENCE. By the time independence returned to Africa in 1950, the realm had acquired a legacy of political fragmentation that could neither be eliminated nor made to operate satisfactorily.
The Suez Canal is an articfical sea level water way in Egypt. It is important because it connects two important seas, the Mediterranean sea and the Red sea. All trade between Asia and Europe pass by the Suez canal. If not for the Sues canal ships would have to make a much longer trip around Africa.
The Sepoy rebellion was set off between the British and the Indians. Indian soldiers that worked for the British during the British rule were known as the sepoys. When British started to advance on their technology, they came up with new riffle carriages. So basically, it was a rebellion that was caused because of ignoring the local customs. The change was mutiny increased distrust between the British and the Indians so the British decided to directly rule India instead of indirectly.

Trade Surplus: the amount by which the value of a country's exports exceeds the cost of its imports.
Trade Deficit: the amount by which the cost of a country's imports exceeds the value of its exports.
Opium War : Opium War as led to china having diffrent countries having control of chinese because of the Economic, Social, and Political Effects.
Taiping Rebellion: The Taiping Rebellion took place in southern China that took place from 1850 to 1864. The effect of the Taiping Rebellion was that about 20 million people died. It also weakened the Qing Dynasty. The Qing had already been weakened by such things as the Opium Wars and the unequal treaties, but the Taiping Rebellion was worse.
Boxer Uprising: The Boxer Rebellion effected China in one main way. The Boxer Rebellion led to a revolution against the Chinese Imperial government. This led to an understanding that the best way to manage China was for the Chinese dynasty.
