4 Principles of learning
1. Learning target
The learning target is selected and defined in advance, before engaging in the activity that will lead to the desired learning outcome
Trainer: Know the purpose of the lesson/course and lead the learners there
The learning is facilitated by the context of daily life, and accurately represents the context of performance
Trainer: During the session you can share your experience by giving the learners examples.
3. Motivation Matters
Learners are best motivated by: - Seeing a connection between their desires and what they are being asked to learn - Believing in their ability to succeed - Feeling good about themselves as learners
Trainer: Give the learners positive feedback (when they answer a question or take part in a discussion)
4. Exercises - Practice
It has been proven that learners learn best and retain information longer when they have meaningful practice.
Trainer: In the session, use exercises and questions, or ask the learner to perform small tasks.
Good luck in the classroom. Don’t forget to combine the 4 principles of learning in training. Always try to put yourself in the learners’ shoes and remember the principles that helped you learn.
