The Theatre Designers!
There are at least FIVE different type of designers in theatre:
The Lighting Designer The Set Designer The Costume Designer The Sound Designer The Prop Designer
The lighting designer makes sure the actors are seen on stage.
The set designer creates the environment needed for a play.
The costume designer dresses the actors.
The sound designer provides any environmental sound needed for the play.
The prop designer creates everything an actor uses on stage that is not a piece of the set (knives, telephones, food, swords, etc...
Each designer has her/his own duties in her/his own area. However, at the end ALL designers have the same purpose:
To create: Mood Atmoshphere and Focus
MOOD is a temporary state of mind or feeling.
ATMOSPHERE is also a state of mind or feeling, which includes the visual.
Focus is the center of interest, the focal point on stage.
To create mood, atmosphere and focus, the designers have to make used of 6 different elements:
Color Line Mass Composition Texture Light
Each element is important, yet you don't need to know their definition, only what the six elements are.
Remember: There are at least five theatre designers. They create mood, atmosphere, and focus; and make used of SIX elements of desing.
See you next time!
