It made cotton a lucrative business. However, it was very dependent on the use on slaves, therefor increasing the value of slaves to the South.
Money is power ane slavery gave the South more money. The North wanted to hold the power and did not like the new influx of money in the South. This caused them to assume efforts to stop the spread of slavery.
The cotton gin served to give economical importance to the industry of slavery. This started the dependency towards slavery by the South and disposition from the North. This served to bring about the Civil War
