A LONG WALK TO WATER By Merhawi Tesfai
Salva Dut is a man from what South Sudan in East Africa. As a young boy, he fled from his village in what is now South Sudan in order to flee from a war that was going on there. He had to endure his friend Marial getting eaten by lions and saw his Uncle Jewiir getting killed by men from the Nuer ethnic group. The Dinka and Nuer had been enemies for a long time. He was so strong that he was able to survive harsh journeys.
My friends you would want to read this book for many reasons. It's full of historical facts and has a little fiction. It'll teach you to never lose hope in the future. It talks about a boy who never lost hope even though he had to suffer a lot in order to get to safety.
"The way they were treating him made Salva feel stronger still. There is no one to help me. They think I am useless. Salva lifted his head proudly. They are wrong, and I will prove it." p.66
To all of those people who came to the United States, I would recommend that you read this book. If you ever lost any of your loved ones, keep hope that you might find them again. If you are coping the death of one of your loved ones, there are always people that can help you.
