What Johnston Middle School Teachers Know About Blended Learning
These four questions were asked of teachers during the interview process. 1. Are you familiar with blended learning and the four models? 2. Are these models being implemented in your school or in specific classrooms? 3. What does the physical location look like? 4. Are the students engaged?
Teacher #1 Response:
"I have heard about blended learning but did not know there were four models."
"I don't know whether they are being implemented at my school."
Teacher #2 Response:
"I have heard of Blended Learning, but did not know there were four models." "I am using some type of Blended Learning in my class, but I am not sure what they are called. "My classroom has three stations. The first station involves students working on the computers using Compass Learning. The second station is a small group that receives direct instruction, and the last group listens to novels using audio equipment. "I think my students are engaged."
Teacher #3 Response:
"I am not very familiar with Blended Learning though I have heard the term in regards to school. "
"I am not not sure if it is being incorporated in our school. "
"Not knowing whether we are using Blended Learning, I would not know what it looks like or whether students are engaged."
Teacher #4: Response
"I do not know much about Blended Learning."
"I do not know about the four models, but I will tell you what I use in my classroom."
"My ELL classes are involved in: - Offline and online instruction - Rotation to computer labs using * Edmodo * Compass Learning * Rosetta Stone - I-Pods - Various internet websites."
"The physical location changes from the classroom to the computer lab
"Students seem more involved, and the rotation of tasks enhances my instruction."
Every teacher interviewed has heard of Blended Learning, but not the four models. Two of the four teachers are using some format of Blended Learning although they do not know what they are using could be incorporated into one of the models. The use of technology doe not mean that a teacher is using Blended Learning Model.
